Bringing Ancient Scents Back to Life
The re-enactment of Mycenaean perfumed oils
Our team of philologists, chemists, and historians is recreating ancient fragrances drawing on evidence from the Linear B texts from 3500 years ago. The project involves interpreting inscriptions on clay tablets, sourcing ingredients, identifying the most appropriate manufacturing steps, and testing the resulting perfumes.

Interactive Ancient Scripts
Explore the 3D Interactive Web Viewer — INSCRIBE – Invention of Scripts and Their Beginnings, a platform with 3D models of objects inscribed with Cretan Hieroglyphic, Linear A, and Rongorongo scripts, along with SigLA — designed by Ester Salgarella and Simon Castellan, an interactive database of inscriptions in the still-undeciphered Linear A script from Bronze Age Greece.
